About this herb

Milk Thistle seed.

Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum), also known as Blessed Milk Thistle and Mary Thistle, is a Mediterranean herb belonging to the daisy and sunflower family. Traditionally used as a tonic herb, the ripened seeds are rich in flavonolignans, collectively known as silymarin, a powerful antioxidant.

Nutrient-Rich & Traditionally Used ✔ Rich in Antioxidants & Flavonoids – Contains silymarin, apigenin, quercetin, taxifolin, and naringenin. ✔ Naturally Nutritious – A great source of protein, amino acids, fatty oils (up to 30%), and vitamin E. ✔ Versatile Herbal Use – Enjoyed as a tea, tincture, roasted coffee alternative, or culinary ingredient.

How to Use Milk Thistle Seeds ✔ Herbal Tea & Infusion: Use 1 teaspoon of crushed milk thistle seeds per 8 oz (1 cup) of hot water. Steep for 10–15 minutes, strain, and enjoy. Pairs well with peppermint, dandelion root, or licorice root.

✔ Tincture Preparation: Combine 1 part milk thistle seeds with 5 parts alcohol (vodka or brandy). Store in a sealed glass jar for 4–6 weeks, shaking occasionally. Strain and use 10–20 drops in water or tea as needed.

✔ Culinary Uses: Sprinkle into smoothies, hot cereals, soups, and stews for a nutritious boost. Roast the seeds for a coffee substitute with a rich, nutty flavor. Grind into a powder for use in capsules or herbal blends.

I made a very large order for a lot of herbs because this shop offered all of the herbs I needed for a tea recipe. Each of them came individually packaged and I appreciate the option to choose organic or wildercrafted. For those who don’t know organic is grown, wildercrafted is harvested from nature. I also like being able to pick how much you get. Cause some herbs go bad after a while so make sure to store them in the freezer. My tea recipe is good for anemia, low iron, period stuff, PCOS, hormones, and liver health. Alfalfa leaf, Dandelion leaf, Red Raspberry Leaf, plantain leaf, nettle leaf, Calendula petals, ginger root, burdock root, dandelion root, sarsaparilla root, yellow dock root, and milk thistle seeds. Ground up your milk thistle seeds ( the amount needed), boil your roots, and steep your leaves and petals apart.
