About this herb
Whole Myrrh gum resin.
Myrrh is a natural gum form from the dried sap resin produced by a thorny shrub in the Commiphora genus, which includes frankincense. The Myrrh tree is native to Ethiopia, Somalia, and Yemen. When the bark of the tree is cut, the syrupy resin runs out of the wood and quickly hardens into small beads as it is exposed to air, and becomes glossy, amber-colored with age. It is then hand-harvested and naturally dried for several weeks before being marketed. Myrrh gum is highly fragrant and is used alone or in blends with other materials to create quality incense.
USE: Burned over hot charcoal bricks to emit its fragrance as incense.
Religious: Myrrh, as well as Frankincense, is mentioned in the Bible and has been used for perfume scents since ancient days. It is highly fragrant and most commonly used in this form as incense, Myrrh gum resins are commonly used by Jews and Christians as ceremonial incense.
