American Skullcap (Scutellaria spp.), a perennial herb in the mint family, thrives in the moist woodlands of North America. Also known as marsh skullcap, helmet flower, and mad-dog weed, this traditional nervine and tonic herb has been used for generations. In China, skullcap is known as Huang Qin, where it has been a part of herbal traditions for centuries.
This herb has a mildly bitter aftertaste, so it is often blended with chamomile, peppermint, or other complementary herbs for a smoother, more palatable tea.
