Echinacea A (Echinacea Angustifolia) has a long history of use by many alternative medicine practitioners. Echinacea is known as Purple Coneflower by modern-day enthusiasts, but it was also known as Snake Root in Native American cultures. As is many medicinal herbs, echinacea is believed to have a number of healthful properties.
Echinacea (grows up to 20 inches high and has purple flowers that look like daisies. The Echinacea root is used for medicinal purposes and is harvested in the fall from plants that are 4 years old. The pharmacological activity of Echinacea Angustifolia is attributed to alkamides in the root, the same agents that give chili pepper its fiery sting on the tongue.
