Reishi Mushroom (Lingzhi) is a polypore with a red, shiny, kidney-shaped cap, it is a natural source of coumarin and mannitol. Reishi has been used for thousands of years throughout Asia for its many purported health benefits. It has been referred to as the "Mushroom of Immortality," “Herb of Spiritual Potency,” "King of Herbs," and "Elixir of Life." In China Reishi represents longevity. It is said that the Reishi mushroom acts positively on the life force or Qi of the heart.
Dried Reishi Mushroom extract powder does not dissolve in water very well, it is usually encapsulated or used to make liquid extracts. Because of its bitter taste, it is rarely added to foods.
