Calamus (Acorus calamus), also known as Sweet Flag or Vacha, is a highly aromatic perennial herb traditionally used in herbal systems around the world. Native to India and North America, Calamus has also become naturalized across Europe, Australia, Siberia, China, Japan, and Indonesia.
Our Calamus Root is ethically wildcrafted and harvested from our North American crop, where it grows in moist, rich soils. The plant features long, spear-shaped leaves and produces small green flowers. It is cultivated primarily for its fragrant rhizome, which has a long history of ritual, culinary, and herbal uses in various cultures.
🌱 Traditional Use: Calamus root has been revered for centuries by indigenous North American tribes, particularly the Penobscot of Canada and the Potawatomi people of the upper Mississippi River region.
