About this herb
Dried Safflower Petals.
Safflower is an ancient flowering plant in the aster family, with cultivation dating back to Pharaonic Egypt. Resembling thistle, its bright blooms are prized not only for their natural beauty and color but also for their versatile uses in herbalism, culinary traditions, dyeing, and body care. These dried safflower petals are gently cut and sifted—ready for infusion, blending, or crafting.
🍵 Herbal & Tea Blends Add a pinch of safflower petals to herbal teas for a warm hue and floral essence. Pairs well with hibiscus, chamomile, rose, and citrus peels.
🍲 Culinary & Beverage Coloring Used in food and beverages to mimic saffron color—ideal for rice, sauces, soups, and broths. Historically used in the flavoring of orange soda, including brands like Sunkist®.
🎨 Natural Dye & Crafting Produces CI Natural Red 26, a natural dye capable of yielding olive, mustard, khaki, yellow, and even purple and bright red shades with proper mordants. Ideal for dyeing paper, fabric, soaps, and homemade crafts.
🏛️ Fun Fact: The term “red tape”—referring to bureaucratic delays—originates from the red safflower-dyed ribbons once used to bind government documents.
🧴 Topical Use May be made into a paste and applied to minor skin irritations. Can be infused in oil or alcohol for DIY balms, massage oils, and skin treatments.
💊 Supplemental Use Safflower petals can be ground into powder and encapsulated or added to blends as a natural antioxidant source and coloring agent.
⚠️ Important Notes Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
As with any herbal product, consult a health practitioner before internal or topical use—especially if pregnant, nursing, or on medication.
❗️Disclaimer & Flower Notice We are not a flower shop and do not sell ornamental flowers. These dried safflower petals are prepared as an herb for supplemental and cosmetic use only.
