The Bupleurum Chinensis plant is a perennial ornamental with sickle-shaped leaves and clusters of small yellow flowers. It is a member of the Apiaceae family, native to East Asia.
The root (radix) of the Bupleurum plant has been used in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine for centuries, with suggestions for harmonizing or moving energy through the body.
Bupleurum Radix root is mainly used in Chinese medicine to resolve lesser Yang disorders and create harmony between the liver and the spleen. It is said to be used in TCM to reduce vomiting, dizziness, chest tightness, vertigo, emotional instability, menstrual irregularity, bloating, nausea, menopause, and reduce hemorrhoids.
