About this herb
Oregon Grape root.
Our wildcrafted Oregon Grape Root comes from the vibrant forests of the Pacific Northwest, where this hardy, evergreen shrub naturally thrives. Known for its bright yellow roots and rich berberine content, Oregon Grape is traditionally used in herbal medicine to support digestive health, liver function, and skin wellness.
A powerful alternative to Gold-en-seal, Oregon Grape shares the same active compound — berberine — prized for its natural anti-mi-cro-bial and cleansing properties. The golden-colored root is carefully harvested in small batches and sun-dried to preserve its potency and integrity.
🌼 How to Use Oregon Grape Root:
💧 Decoction (Strong Tea): Simmer 1 teaspoon of dried Oregon Grape Root in 1 cup of water for 15–20 minutes. Note: The root is very bitter and may not be ideal as a sipping tea — commonly used for medicinal decoctions.
🌿 Tincture: Steep the root in alcohol (1:5 ratio) for 4–6 weeks. Shake occasionally. Strain and use as directed by your herbalist.
🧴 Topical Use: Add tincture to salves or oils for skin conditions. Oregon Grape is often used in herbal ointments to support skin affected by eczema, psoriasis, or rashes.
🌿 Pairs Well With: Gold-en-seal (for immune and digestive blends) Echinacea Root (immune support) Dandelion Root (liver cleansing) Yellow Dock (detoxifying blends) Burdock Root (skin and blood cleanser)
🔮 Spiritual/Folk Use: In folk medicine and plant spiritualism, Oregon Grape root is believed to help clear stagnant energy and break hexes, much like Gold-en-seal. Its golden hue and bitterness symbolize purging and protection. Sometimes used in cleansing rituals, particularly when paired with myrrh or frankincense.
