About this herb
Barberry Root Bark.
Barberry, also known as European Barberry, Pepperidge Bush, Wood Turmeric, and a variety of other common names, is an evergreen shrub native to Europe, Africa, and Asia that produces edible berries from sweeping, thorny branches, the leaves are green and leathery in texture, while the Barberry root is yellow and spreads up to 8 feet.
Barberry root is harvested in the Spring or fall and the berries are collected in the fall. The bark of the roots and stems is consumed, either in capsules as a powder or prepared as a tea.
Barberry Root bark contains beta-carotene, lutein, zinc, vitamin C, and thiamine and is used as a bitter tonic and in tea blends or used to produce tinctures and extracts.
Barberry Root Bark is a berberine supplement and is a natural source of anti oxidants. Anti oxidants are known to help support the cells against oxidative stress caused by free radicals aiding with the support of overall health and wellness.
In tea blends, Barberry root bark is usually in combination with other herbs.
